We were putting sheet metal on the chicken roof the other day to make the roof more waterproof for the incoming rain. That required climbing on the roof carrying long pieces of roofing, then screwing them down with a battery powered impact wrench (the kind that makes a loud PRRRRRATTATTATT noise). One would think that we were making enough of a ruckus that the chickens would flee the scene... not so. In fact they all came a-running to see what we were doing and if we had food. Once ascertained that we did not in fact have food most chickens lost interest. Not Anton's favorite! Most people here call her Antoinette. She climbed up the ladder to go hang out with the guys on the roof. To see if they had food up there? To be with Anton? I am not sure what goes through a tiny chicken brain...
Well, Anton petted her a bit, then picked her up and launched her off the roof. She squawked on her way down, then fluffed herself up, then climbed up the ladder again! She did this 3 times, always having a grand time on her way down. Must have been a thrill for an animal who can barely flap four feet off the ground with a running start to pretend to be flying at a hight of 15 feet or so. Chicken hang gliding.
